Children‘s Day-Care Centre “Navininkai“ from Lithuanian College of Democracy Education Branch invited children and their families to learn in experiential way to bake bread, cast candles or fly over the river in order to help social risk groups families to create successfully life scenarios.

During this unusual learning families baked bread in Rumšiškės Lithuanian Folk Museum, cast candles in Anykščiai Horse Museum, flew over the river in Aukštadvaris Entertainment Park, went hiking in Vilnius Verkiai Park.

Professor from Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences, Faculty of Social Education Giedrė Kvieskienė said that in recent years attempts to apply experience-based methods emerge in all areas of adult education.

“Experiential training consists of several important elements. Firstly, it is an organized process. In life, we learn a lot spontaneously, from random experience, which appears significant and after reflecting it, we succeed to formulate useful conclusions. However, when we talk about experiential education, we mean a purposefully organized process for educational purpose. Secondly, it is a direct experience. Everyone learns from acquired experience during personal experiential education.  Everything happens when you try here and now – directly in the development, construction, experiencing, participating in some creative and educational activities“, – tells G. Kvieskienė.

These activities are implemented according to Lithuanian College of Democracy Educational Branch Children‘s Day-Care “Navininkai“ project “The development of family empowerment services at Childrens’ Day-Care Centres“. Children‘s Day-Care Centres in Čižiūnai and Vilnius were established during the project. It is expected that Children‘s Day-Care Centre‘s educational events, trainings, new integrated family empowerment services will ensure the welfare of risk group children and their family members.

The project is funded by the funds of 2009-2014 European Economic Area Financial Mechanism, Lithuanian State, the project developer and partners. The project partners: Children‘s Temporary Care Home “Atsigręžk į vaikus“, Vilnius Jonas Ivaškevičius Youth School and Children’s Socialization Care Organization “Boenheten As“, registered in Norway.
